GWS Celebrates June Jordan

February 23, 2026

This week, the departments of Gender & Women's Studies and African American & African Diaspora Studies, are celebrating the legacies of June Jordan.

GWS is proud and honored to have had June Jordan as a faculty member (1990-1995). During Professor Jordan's time in the department and with Berkeley, our students benefited immensely from her courses and from the events that she organized and in which she participated.

HIGHLIGHT:
Students lucky enough to be here at the time could have taken June Jordan's "Coming Into the World Female" Women's Studies course:

  • Coming Into the World Female

Through cross cultural readings of fiction, autobiographies, and poems, we will identify and then examine important problematic commonalities of experience specific to the female.
