GWS Professor Minoo Moallem and GWS Chancellor's Postdoctoral Scholar Amir Aziz received a UCHRI Award for the conference Media and Migration, in collaboration with Film & Media graduate students Osa Osarugue Otebele and Allyson Unzicker.
In this two-day conference, Media and Migration in the Digital Age, to be held in Spring 2025 at the University of California, Berkeley campus, we will convene a diversified group of artists, journalists, and scholars who investigate how visual and digital media enact practices of care, particularly towards marginal migrant communities, in an increasingly divisive world. Through a robust series of panels, workshops, and artistic installations over two days, we aim to critically examine the problematic of how visual and digital media enable the circulation of anti-immigrant racism on the one hand and how, on the other hand, decolonial diasporic aesthetics and epistemologies—as a humanistic practice of care—create space for various modes of repair and resistance.
