Visiting Scholar Programs in Gender & Women’s Studies
The Institute for Gender and Sexuality Research (IGSR) is the official host for all visiting scholars in the Department of Gender & Women’s Studies.
IGSR Scholar-in-Residence Program
Each year the IGSR hosts a group of scholars from the U.S. and abroad to conduct independent research and whose work is centrally on women, gender or sexuality. The program is open to scholars with their Ph.D in-hand at least 5 years prior to the proposed visit**. (This is a requirement by the university for visiting scholar positions). Scholars may stay for any time period between 3-12 months. In addition to conducting independent research, IGSR Scholars-in-Residence will be expected to participate in the IGSR Reading/Writing Group, where scholars present works-in-progress to each other for feedback on a regular basis.
**For fields in which a Ph.D. is not required for senior-level scholarship, please include a short explanation in your application describing your qualifications to conduct doctoral level research.
The IGSR Scholar-in-Residence Program is open to scholars who meet UC Berkeley's visiting scholar definition.

IGSR Visiting Student Researcher Program
Each year the IGSR hosts a number of visiting graduate students from the U.S. and abroad to conduct independent research under the mentorship of a GWS faculty member, and whose work is centrally on women, gender or sexuality. The program is open to students currently pursuing a degree in a degree-granting program at another university, and who possess at least a bachelor’s degree. Scholars may stay for any time period between 3-12 months.
The IGSR Visiting Student Researchers (VSR) Program is open to scholars who meet UC Berkeley's visiting student researcher definition.
